George Akume

George Akume (born 27 December 1953) is senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was the Minority Leader of the Senate from June 2011 to June 2015. He was also the Governor of Benue State from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007. He was the first Executive Governor of Benue State to have completed two terms in office. He was elected governor of Benue State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was then elected to the Senate.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Sen. George Akume )
Akume was re-elected Senator for Benue North-West in the April 2011 elections, running on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).〔
==Background==
George Akume obtained a Bachelor's degree In Sociology and a Master's Degree In Labour Relations From the University of Ibadan. He became a career civil servant who rose to the apex of the professional career ladder as a permanent secretary. He now resides in Abuja, Nigeria.〔
